Qualcomm announced new Snapdragon 778G chipset for budget phones
The chip-making giant for smartphones –Qualcomm announced new Snapdragon 778G chipset for budget phones. Qualcomm’s 778G chipset will be the new addition of chip in the 700 series of the chip giant. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset will support 5G connectivity. The main focus of adding this chip is to target mid-range handsets. As per the reports, IQOO, Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Motorola and the smartphone manufacturers like Honor will be using this chipset in their budget-friendly handsets in the upcoming few months or more. Hence, Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 778 5G mobile platform to bring the features of the flagship’s chipset into a mid-range chipset. Moreover, the Snapdragon 778G in midrange will be appearing on major smartphone companies including Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Oppo, Realme and Xiaomi.
Prior to this, Qualcomm rolled out its 5nm Snapdragon 780G chipset in March of this year. But now, the company is rolling out its slightly low variant of 780G chipset. Notably, the major difference between Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 780G and 778G is that the 778G chip is built on TSMC’s 6nm technology instead of Samsung’s 5nm of the 780G.
In addition to this, the new Snapdragon 778G processor offers three image-signal processors or ISPs. Due to this, it is possible to capture photos and video from three different cameras and angles at once. Moreover, Qualcomm is also bringing Elite Gaming features including Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Game Quick Touch to the upcoming chipset of 778G.
In terms of specifications or features, the onboard Adreno 642L GPU can deliver up to 40 per cent faster graphics rendering as compared to other chipsets in this range. Meanwhile, the Kryo 670 delivers up to 40 per cent in terms of CPU. Additionally, the upcoming 778G chipset uses a 5nm fabrication process technology for the processor.
According to the news, the Snapdragon 778G focuses on exactly what its users want. The main features include 5G, AI, super camera performance and gaming. Currently, Qualcomm is making M.2 reference designs for current OEM customers of its X65 and X62 5G modems. Therefore, the chip makes it easier for laptop, desktop and game users. The new processor makes it easy for the connectivity of 5G into smartphones.
Features of Snapdragon 778G:
- The new chipset will bring a Kryo 670 CPU paired with the GPU of Adreno 642L.
- Also, the chipset will bring an integrated Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF. The 5G Modem-RF delivers mmWave and 5G network connectivity support.
- The upcoming Snapdragon 778G will be offering three image-signal processors commonly known as ISPs.
- Qualcomm’s triple ISP allows you to capture photos and videos from wide, ultrawide, and telephoto angles.
- Moreover, the 778G will be bringing some video capture and AI capabilities inspired by the latest processor i.e. Snapdragon 888.
Furthermore, the company has also made other announcements for getting 5G connectivity more advanced. In a nutshell, Qualcomm’s new chipset aims to focus more on mobile gaming and enhanced camera capabilities in premium mid-range mobile phones.
