It’s in Apple’s interest to ensure people don’t use Android phones, says WhatsApp CEO

The rivalry between Facebook and Apple is quite old. The allegations from both tech giants have been made at each other since their initial stages. The latest claim was from WhatsApp CEO who believed that Apple’s interest to ensure people don’t use Android phones. Speaking at the “Podcast”, WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart said Apple’s privacy labels support favors as the company did not want users to use Android phones. Moreover, Cathcart said it’s in Apple’s interest to ensure people use iPhones.

Cathcart said it was “certainly in Apple’s strategic interest” that users not use WhatsApp as they want people to not use an Android phone.

Many tech companies are not happy with Apple after the company brought out its new privacy policy earlier this year. Apple announced that its App Tracking Transparency framework would also go live soon. As a result, Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp collect more data than any other apps. WhatsApp CEO Cathcart claims whatever the purpose of these apps, it is a fact that WhatsApp competes with iMessage. Claiming that WhatsApp’s user base is “Android heavy”, Cathcart said he uses an Android device.

In the USA more people use iMessage rather than WhatsApp. You don’t see an icon for iMessage when you install it because you don’t download it. The iMessage is on your phone by default. If you look at a place like the US, most people have an iPhone.  The messaging experience works better on iMessage if everyone else has an iPhone,” Cathcart said. Apple’s ‘Labels’ page has all the information about data that is collected by built-in apps. For instance, built-in apps like iMessage can’t be removed. Apple has labels pages for these on their website.
