Facebook is supporting renewable energy ahead of Earth Day

Facebook announced that all its operation has supported 100 per cent renewable energy. This claims that Facebook is supporting renewable energy ahead of Earth Day. The social media giant, Facebook, has made this announcement before Earth Day. Earth Day is an international event that takes place for raising awareness about climate change and protection. Earth Day takes place every year on April 22.  Over the years, many environmental groups and activists have been putting pressure on the major business including Facebook to become more eco-friendly. The support of eco-friendly energy shows that how much tech giants are serious about overcoming the climate conditions.

Moreover, Facebook also has a hub for climate and science information as well as a virtual event for Earth Day will be streamed at 9 a.m. PT on April 22. The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerburg also claims that his company is involved in various environmental protection projects for protecting our Earth. Recently, Facebook has launched a new feature name community help. By the help of this feature, users can register themselves as a volunteer for the activities like picking up trash at a park, planting a tree, cleaning the beach or streets etc.

Furthermore, Facebook has a goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2030 that is quite impressive and appreciatable. The company wants to reduce the activities that harm the environment. Some of those activities include business travel and hardware manufacturing.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, Facebook’s emission contributes to some pollution and a warmer climate which is considered alarming. Also, social media claims of reducing greenhouse gas emission. Firstly, the Facebook aim was to cut down its greenhouse gas emissions by 94% but it was surpassed by 75 per cent. However, the reduction of emission of greenhouse gas came from data centres, offices and other buildings of the company.
